This private 9-hour seasonal tour guided tour for couples, families or small groups traveling together takes you to the town of Hermanus in Walker Bay. Hermanus is known as the "Whale Capital" of South Africa. The Southern Right Whales migrate to the coastal waters of South Africa from the Antarctic to calve and nurse their young. These mammals, only a few feet from the shore, provide an unsurpassed whale watching opportunity. This tour includes a panoramic drive along two stunning mountain passes to Hermanus, as well as along the coast of False Bay, one of the most beautiful drives in South Africa. On the way back an African penguin colony is visited followed by a spectacular mountain drive on the way to Cape Town.
We leave Cape Town at 8am and head for the picturesque Hottentots Holland Mountain Range. We pass the beautiful town of Somerset West (and Gordon's Bay in view on the foothills of the mountain) and take on the awesome Sir Lowry's Pass from where we will have a stunning'view over False Bay, Cape Town and Table Mountain in the distance. A short coffee stop is taken on the mountain after driving along the beautiful apple orchards of 'Apple Country.'
The mountain pass of Houwhoek now follows, where after we descend and see the quaint little town of Botriver below and the outstretched wheat and canola fields in the distance. Next is the fisherman's town of Hawston and then we drive into the town of Hermanus for whale watching from the rocks. An orientation tour follows along the coastline before we stop on the square known for rock based whale watching. With so many restaurants and craft markets on the square the client can even grab a take-away lunch and watch the whales while enjoying it.
After lunch and enough time for whale watching we return via the panoramic False Bay Coastal Clarence Drive. Drive to Stoney Point to see the hundreds of African penguins in the water. Time permitting, we even visit the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens for a short hike. We then carry on with this spectacular drive and join the main highway to take us back to Cape Town. Arrival in Cape Town is at approximately 5pm.
